As part of a yearlong celebration, EPE is excited to introduce the 75 Years of Elvis Timeline, an online commemoration of the life and achievements of the King of Rock 'n' Roll. The timeline features lots of photos, video, editorial, music and more and allows fans to walk-thru Elvis’ greatest accomplishments in both his personal life and his career – spanning from January 8, 1935 to January 8, 2010.

In addition to being able to browse through the content on the site, fans will also have the opportunity to vote on their favorite milestone moments in Elvis’ life. Each day, fans can vote for their three favorite moments from 30 enhanced milestones on the timeline. The Lansky Way

POSTED BY MARY CASHIOLA ON WED, DEC 2, 2009 AT 8:30 AM

Part of Beale Street has been renamed in honor of one of our favorite Memphis retailers, Bernard J. Lansky.

StreetSignLansky.gif

Of course you may know him as the "clothier to the King," for his special relationship with Elvis Presley, but at 82 years old, he still works seven days a week.
I interviewed him several years ago and he was just as sweet as he could be. He told me all about Elvis wanting to buy him out and gold lame and all sorts of things.
"There were very few things he would turn down," Lansky said. "I had an idea that he would look good in pink and black. That was one of my ideas. I put him in a pink coat and a black pair of pants — he was sharp. Everyone else was wearing white and black, and I pushed that pink on him and it blew their minds. It was dynamite."

The store has since relocated to the Peabody Hotel, a block away from its original location, and Lansky and his family serve as a liaison to tourists from all over the world.

Hosemann backs Tupelo entertainment district
by Carlie Kollath/NEMS Daily Journal

TUPELO - The city's top tourism and downtown development officials want a new entertainment venue, and Mississippi's secretary of state said Monday that he'd like to help.

Delbert Hosemann met late Monday afternoon with many of the city's powerbrokers to promote the state's Entertainment District Act, which took effect in July.

The act allows a local government to create a district in which entertainment-based businesses that sell tickets can get tax breaks for new or renovated venues. The venue would depreciate in five years compared to the normal 40 years.

As a trade-off, the participating businesses must add a $2 fee to their tickets for five years. The money goes to the state's general fund.

Hosemann said he'd like to see Fairpark and the entire downtown Tupelo area become an entertainment district.

Backing venue

During the past year, the idea of a new downtown entertainment venue has been shopped around by various people, including representatives from the BancorpSouth Arena, the Tupelo Redevelopment Agency, the Downtown Tupelo Main Street Association, the Community Development Foundation and the Tupelo Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Many of the ideas involve capitalizing on Tupelo being the birthplace of Elvis Presley.

At Monday's meeting, BancorpSouth Arena Director Todd Hunt said he'd like to see a 1,000-2,000 seat venue. He put the price tag at $20 million to $100 million, depending on how it is finished.

Hosemann said he'd like to see a smaller venue with a $2 million price tag, with a larger one later. He said the idea would be a public acquisition of real estate, which would then be leased - a situation similar to the BancorpSouth Conference Center.

"I'll support whatever you come up with," Hosemann said. "Y'all have a history of being out in front. Don't stop your dream early ... Y'all have got the right idea and you know where you are heading. We just want to make sure we complement your efforts and do what you need."

Indiciamentos no caso Michael Jackson acontecerão depois de 2010

Segundo fontes judiciais, ainda há muitas provas a serem revisadas.
Principal investigado é o médico do cantor, Conrad Murray.

        Elvis In Concert

Elvis In Concert is a 1977 TV special starring Elvis Presley. It was Elvis' third and final TV special, following Elvis (The '68 Comeback Special) and Aloha From Hawaii. It was filmed during Presley's final tour in the cities of Omaha, Nebraska, on June 19, 1977, and Rapid City, South Dakota, on June 21, 1977. It was shown on CBS in October 1977, two months after Presley died. It is one of the few videos of Elvis which remain unlikely to ever be released for home viewing and is only available in bootleg form.

Production

In early 1977, Elvis Presley signed a deal with CBS for a new television special. It was agreed that CBS would videotape concerts during the summer of 1977. The final special was culled from footage from two performances on June 19, 1977, in Omaha, and June 21, 1977, in Rapid City, although much of the footage from Omaha was considered unusable due to sound and performance problems. This concert has been heavily edited and bootlegs (possible stolen tapes) have appeared on auction web sites over the years. The show was shot on NTSC videotape although many film conversions have appeared over the years. The crew also filmed footage of Elvis at the airport in Indianapolis, receiving a golden record by RCA, on June 26th. This is the last known footage of Elvis ever filmed, and he can be seen wearing his favourite DEA jacket. During the special, Presley performs a number of songs spanning his career. A notable moment is his performance of "Are You Lonesome Tonight" in which he appears to forget the words during the song's long monologue portion; this footage was included in the later documentary This is Elvis to  illustrate his poor condition at the time. (Darrin Memmer's book "Elvis Presley - The 1977 CBS Television Special," published in 2001 by Morris Publishing, makes a strong case that Elvis regularly played around with the words during the spoken portion of the song on stage, rather than it being a case of poor memory.) Presley also sings his much-performed "My Way" although he has to use a lyric sheet; this performance is notable for the song's prophetic lyric, "And now the end is near and so I face the final curtain." According to Roy Carr and Mick Farren in Elvis: The Illustrated Record, CBS officials considered postponing broadcast of the special in hopes of obtaining better performance footage of Presley, but his death in August 1977 rendered this moot. Its broadcast received mixed reaction; Carr and Farren condemned it as a "travesty", adding, "Had it been shown during his lifetime, it would have caused more irrevocable damage to what was left of his career than almost a decade of starring in third-rate movies." A misconception regarding Elvis in Concert stems from a statement broadcast by Presley's father, Vernon Presley at the program's conclusion in which he said viewers had just witnessed Elvis' final performance. In fact, Presley made five more concert appearances before giving what would be his final show in Indianapolis, Indiana, on June 26. However the CBS special was Elvis' last professionally recorded concert. The special actually contains two messages by Elvis' father. One taped in a hotelroom during the tour in June when Elvis was still alive, and the other taped in the backoffice of Graceland shortly after Elvis death.

Reviews

Blogcritics Magazine has called Elvis in Concert "both terrible and embarrassing." The fan-site Elvis Information Network deemed the program "a challenging special to watch... The pudginess of his face and his substantial girth is a long way from the panther like sleekness exhibited in Elvis: That's the Way It Is", a documentary about Presley released in 1970.

Official release

This special has never been released on VHS or DVD, and Presley's estate has issued a statement saying that they have "no plans" to release the special, due to the fact that Elvis was visibly "far from his best in the way he looked and the way he performed."

Many people often wonder where the inspiration for the design of Elvis's jumpsuits came from. One suit he wore for much of 1977 was named "Mexican Sundial" jumpsuit. It was based on the Axtec Indians Calendar.

Elvis Presley Christmas Card 1950s

ElviscardI thought I'd kick off the Christmas season with a special card from The King.
"This card," says the eBay seller, "was sent to my mom from Graceland during the late 1950's." Not shown are several shots of Graceland within 'snow settings' that are in the card when you fold it out. This item, according to the seller, is from the Trude Forsher collection. Forsher was Elvis Presley's personal secretary and promotional coordinator from 1956 - 1961. Trude joined Elvis on the first day of production of "Love Me Tender" and stayed within through "Flaming Star" in 1961.
